School Science Projects

More than 700 Church Hill Middle School students have their annual science fair projects on display in the school gymnasium Tuesday and today, with judging to take place Tuesday evening. The event coincided with Tuesday’s parent/teacher conferences, allowing parents to look at the work of their child and classmates.

If it’s to get kids more interested in science, I can say from personal experience, it doesn’t work. Myself and all my classmates from 1st grade up until 12th dreaded the science fair. I especially hated how much time and effort I put into coming up with an idea, doing the experiment, putting together the board, etc, only to get a “Honorable Mention” (which they give everyone who participates) every year.

I am now a second grade teacher and I still dread having to put together a science fair project for the whole class.
