Teachers: What is the point of having a science fair every year?

science projects for kids

If it’s to get kids more interested in science, I can say from personal experience, it doesn’t work. Myself and all my classmates from 1st grade up until 12th dreaded the science fair. I especially hated how much time and effort I put into coming up with an idea, doing the experiment, putting together the board, etc, only to get a “Honorable Mention” (which they give everyone who participates) every year.

I am now a second grade teacher and I still dread having to put together a science fair project for the whole class.

I’m taking part in science fair as well, and personally, there is NO point in the science fair.

it depends . did you eget the option of picking your topic? I think it is a great way to have some get more intrested in science. It is a chance for hands on activity- and while others dred it- some like it. I think from personal experience my students dred the actual presentation then the project.

LOL! I agree with Gen. My daughter is in first grade this year and her project has been a learning experience for my wife and I. I feel especially pathedic seeing as how I’m actually a teacher. Irony
